MALLORY PARK 28th AUGUST 2006

POWERED BY JAGUAR

POWERED BY JAGUAR CHAMPIONSHIP combined with SPORTS CAR V SALOON CHALLENGE

Due to low entries the PBJ and Sports car V Salooon challenge were run together. This made it more interesting for the spectators but more difficult for me with all the pictures etc. Still never mind!

Graham Booth in the Caterham made a good start from 2nd on the grid & never looked back! This left Ian Fletcher, Steve Davis & Kevin Doyle to battle for 2nd place. More importantly Steve & Kevin were also fighting for the championship. The trio stayed in this order until lap 10 when Steve retired from the race with a faulty clutch. At the same time Ians lap times rose by 3 seconds a lap until he eventually retired on lap 17. Kevin Doyle had secured the championship! (This paragraph has been corrected regarding Steve's retirement).

Folllowing his earlier accident during qualifying, Simon Seath was on a charge, and eventualy made it past Chris Palmer to finish 6th in the race and 4th out of the PBJ drivers.

Lawrence Coppock also had a good race, but could not match the pace of 3rd place Bob Lines and had to settle for 4th.

Stephen Bantleman's XJS sustained considerable damage & a DNF following an incident with one of the Sports car V Salooon car drivers at the hairpin.

Congratulations to Kevin Doyle for winning the 2006 PBJ championship. Not everything went to plan throughout the season for Kevin, including two blown head gaskets and a black & white flag incident. Better luck next year Steve!

Pic1 Kevin Doyle comes up to lap Loz Ball & Chris Palmer. Pic2 David Yapp spins his Porsche at Shaw's whilst Westley Harding in the Ford Fairlane & John Hutchison take a wide line to avoid contact.

.

Pic1Having followed them for 6 laps, Simon Seath makes a successful move on Dave ball & Chris Palmer. Pic2 Bob lines in the D type laps Patrick Felgenhauer, with Lawrence Coppock a few yards behind.

.

Pic1 Kevin Doyle takes second shortly before Steve Davis's retirement. Pic2 Simon Seath follows Daniel Jarvis around Shaw's hairpin for the last time, finishing 5th & 6th.

GOSSIP

Although the PBJ season is at an end, Steve Davis will be out in his XJS with the Heritage Grand Touring Car Challenge on the 23rd/24th of September at Brands Hatch. Fellow PBJ racer Kevin Doyle will be out in his Ex TWR Mazda RX7. Other JEC drivers that have competed, and may be there are William Lynch and Richard Masters. Richard retired from the last race at Brands Hatch following a spin and collision at Paddock.

The HGTCC race is one of many support races for rounds 26, 27, & 28 of the British Touring Car Championship BTCC. Should be a fun packed weekend. If I'm not sunning myself in Greece at this time, I will be there with the camera!
