BRANDS HATCH 5/6th MAY 2007

PBJ

KNIGHTS BATTERIES JEC POWERED BY JAGUAR CHAMPIONSHIP

BRANDS HATCH 2007

Due to the low numbers of both PBJ and XK drivers so far this year, it was decided to combine the two races at Brands. It was great from the spectators point of view, even if the drivers would have preffered fuller grids in their own Championship.

QUALIFYING

Most of the front runners in PBJ qualified ahead of the fastest XK's. Kevin Doyle was out in his more familiar V12 Jaguar Coupe, and no surprises as can usually be expected he put it on pole! Graham Paddick was 2nd after the woes of Snetterton, Chris Palmer 3rd & Allan Glover 4th.

RACE 1 (SATURDAY)

Thoughts of Kevin walking away with the race quickly dispersed, when by the first corner Graham Paddick was leading the pack Allan was up to second and both Kevin & Chris had slipped down to 3rd, and 6th respectively.

The first corner, Graham Paddick takes the lead

Lap 2 the gap is already closing between Allan & Graham, whilst Kevin is rapidly making up lost places!

Allan & Graham were bumper to bumper for the first half of the race, and Kevin Doyle had quickly made up for his poor start, rapidly catching Allan!

A little further back Daren McWhirter had the better start on Rick Walker and managed to keep him just at bay for the entire race. It was a similar story for Lawrence Coppock and Trevor Groom, with Lawrence trying his very best to get back in front. It was very close for most of the race, and then Mark Russell came along!

Close racing for many of the laps between Lawrence Coppock & Trevor Groom.

Pic1 Ray Higgs & Richard Hackett Pic 2 Colin Youle & Simon Seath

There were plenty of good scraps going on throughout the 17 Laps at both ends of the grid, Simon Seath as usual gradualy making his way through the pack, with Colin youle losing his place to Simon on lap 8!

Kevin Doyle on what was to be his final lap giving Graham Padick much to think about.

Back at the front on lap 7 Allan Glover had taken over the lead from Graham Paddick, and to make matters worse it looked like Graham was about to lose 2nd to Kevin Doyle. Presumably Graham was releived to see Kevin quickly fading in his rear view mirror as Kevins race came to an abrupt end.

.

Pic1 Trevor groom, Lawrence Coppock, & Mark Russell. Pic2 Grahame Bull

In the second half of the race Lawrence still trying to find a way past Trevor Groom had something else to worry about. Mark Russell who had lost a place to Lawrence on Lap two was now very keen to regain his place, and on lap 14 was back in front with Trevor firmly in his sights.

.

Pic 1 - 3 No.17 Spins No. 35 has nowhere to go & is beached at Druids

In his quest to make up another place Simon Seath saw his oppertunity to slip up the inside of Ray Higgs at Druids, unfortunately he slightly overcooked it and as the back end came round just clipping Ray's XK140 sending him into the gravel trap! Things could have been much worse however as the race leaders were about 5 seconds further back down the road and had to navigate around the bright green XJS whist he endeavoured to correct his course!

Blake Humphrey about to lose a place to Andrew Keith-lucas after briefly winning it back.

Blake Humphrey who is sharing the smart blue XJS with James Quirke had a mixed race initially getting past Simon Seath on lap1 and briefly John Burton and then lost a place to Andrew. He managed to get it back again on Lap 15 only to lose it again on the next and last lap!

Back at the front again Allan & Graham remained together for a few more laps when Graham started to fade. By the chequered flag the gap had grown to a massive 21 seconds, and Graham was coming under pressure from Darren McWhirter in his XK120. A convincing win for Allan Glover!
